St. John??' Opens Spring Series With Four First Place Finishes

With sweep of the shot put, and winners in three additional events, the St. John???s women???s track and field team opened its first of five Spring Series outings, with the Monday Meeting Part I.
The team of Kellie Brown, Paula Rennalls, Phobay Kutu-Akoi and Sakinah Allen opened the meet for the Red Storm with a first place time of 48.78 in the 4x100 meter relay.
Asia Nettles followed suit in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.36. Nerissa Pelle finished close behind with a second place time of 1:00.90.
Opening the field events portion of the meet, Tetee Kuyateh, Abbie David and Dominique Eason swept the top three of the women???s shot put. Kuyateh fell just short of ECAC qualifying standards with a throw of 13.27, but qualifying for BIG EAST Championships. David and Eason finished with distances of 10.71 and 10.62 respectively.
Fayanne Francis was the last event winner for the Red Storm with a distance of 5.30 meters in the long jump.
In the 100 meter dash, Rennalls finished with a time of 12.94, also good enough for second place.
In the 800 meter run, Rakitbat Abiola also finished as runner up with a time of 2:23.89. Jodey Johnson finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:31.46.
With another Red Storm second place finish, Venisa Clarke-Lee ran a 26.29 in the 200 meter dash, outrunning 19 other competitors. Rennalls marked her third top three finish of the meet with a third place time of 26.42.
In other field events, Marie Griffiths finished with another Red Storm second place mark as she went the distance with a jump of 9.66 meters. Geraldine Brevil followed close behind with a third place distance of 8.81 meters.
Up next for the Red Storm is a trip to sunny Florida as the team will participate in the Gatorade Invitational hosted by University of Miami on April 14.
