St. John’s Shines at 130th Penn Relays

Red Storm set program record in the sprint medley relay
PHILADELPHIA – The St. John's Track and field team concluded its three days of competition at the historic 130th Penn Relays on Saturday evening at Franklin field.
Red storm secured seven top 10 finishes, highlighted by Cassandra Lemus-Sodji's win in the long jump yesterday and program record performance in the Sprint Medley Relay from Kettia Ambrose, Jalen Jackson, Chineye Josephine Onourah and Naiara Garcia-Moreno, with a time of 3-minutes, 48.65 seconds to place fourth.
The 4x400-meter relay finished sixth in the Championship of America, with a time of 3:35.44, while the 4x200-meter relay finished in ninth and stopped the clock in 1:36.33.
Jamora Alves secured a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 14.95m (49 feet, 0.75 inches), just two centimeters off first place. Also in the field, Fia Viklund finished in sixth-place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.90m (39 feet, 0.25 inches) on her final attempt.
On the track, Garcia-Moreno competed in the 1500 meter run and finish with the time of 4:18.57 to set a new lifetime best by over seven seconds to place 24th in a highly competitive field.
Following this weekend's action, St. John's returns to Queens for the Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, May 2. The program will celebrate the 16 members of its graduating class before the start of the meet.
