St. John??' Men??' Tennis Blanks Lehigh, 7-0

The St. John???s men???s tennis team posted its fifth consecutive win Tuesday afternoon when they defeated Lehigh University with a score of 7-0. The Red Storm improved to 9-6 on the season, while the Mountain Hawks dropped to 2-9 overall.
The Red Storm was victorious in two of three doubles matches with win the early advantage. Louis Desmarteaux and Martin Kosut won their seventh straight match at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over John Nespoli and Jon Michael Caminiti. Artem Vlasenko and Tom Green secured the doubles point for St. John???s as the pair topped Alfredo Fernandez Concha and Brad Nelson, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.
Lehigh prevented a St. John???s doubles sweep with victory the No. 3 spot. Brent Herbert and Andrew Balshi defeated Alex Svetlakov and Derek Wallensteen, 8-4.
In singles play, senior Green gave St. John???s a two point lead with his triumph at the No. 5 spot. He overpowered Caminiti (6-1, 6-0). Freshman Kosut pushed the Red Storm???s score to 3-0 as he won his sixth consecutive match with a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Balshi at third singles. Sophomore Jordan Talbot secured the win for St. John???s with his win at fourth singles. He defeated Mike Gordon (6-2, 6-1).
With the winner of the match already decided, the Red Storm went on to take its fourth sweep of the season. Svetlakov moved up to No. 2 singles to face Nespoli and was victorious with a score of (6-4, 6-1). Senior captain Desmarteaux brought St. John???s score to 6-0 with his intense overpowering of Fernandez-Concha (6-1, 7-6) at the No. 1 spot. Senior Claudio Halim made his return to the courts and completed with sweep with a (6-1, 6-3) win against Nelson at sixth singles.
The Red Storm returns to action on Friday, April 6 against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson. First serve is schedule for 3 p.m. in Teaneck, N.J.
