Amanda Walling Joins Red Storm Softball Coaching Staff

QUEENS, N.Y. (July 23, 2007) ??? Amy Kvilhaug, head coach of the St. John???s softball team, announced the hiring of assistant coach Amanda Walling for the 2007-08 season.
Walling, a native of Charleston, S.C., played four years under Kvilhaug at Radford University in Radford, Va. Before graduating in 2006, Walling was an integral member of Radford???s first ever, 40-win season. She batted .319 with a team-high seven home runs, 33 RBI, 32 runs and 60 hits. Walling also posted a league-best .995 fielding percentage and caught a pitching staff with the 10th best ERA in the nation. Radford made its first appearance in a Big South Championship game with Walling behind the plate.
???It has been great reuniting with Amanda as a colleague,??? said Kvilhaug. ???I have always had the utmost respect for her leadership, wealth of knowledge, softball game sense and motivation to succeed. Amanda is familiar with my style of coaching so I am confident in a smooth transition to the program. She is going to be a great role model for the student-athletes and I am excited about her joining our staff.???
Walling was selected as a Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state second team catcher her senior season, in addition to earning All-Big South First Team honors in 2005 and 2006. She finished her career ranked fifth in school history with 168 hits and 11 home runs.
???I am very excited to be joining the Red Storm coaching staff,??? said Walling. ???Coach Kvilhaug and assistant coach Laura Taylor are two very knowledgeable coaches. I know I will learn a great deal from them this season. I also look forward to coaching a very talented group of student-athletes.
Walling???s responsibilities with the Red Storm will include working with the catchers and outfielders. She will also handle administrative responsibilities, such as team travel, opponent scouting and recruiting.
