Leszczynska Named To BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

St. John's Volleyball Earns No. 21 Ranking In This Week's CSTV/AVCA National Poll
QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior setter Wioleta Leszczynska (Bielsko-Biala, Poland) received BIG EAST weekly honor roll accolades for her tremendous efforts in St. John's four matches this past week, the conference announced Monday. The honor comes on the heels of a 4-0 week for the Red Storm, and a first place finish at the Indiana University/adidas Classic.
Leszczynska was instrumental in leading St. John's to their third consecutive Queens/Nassau Cup title with a 3-0 win over local rivals Hofstra on Tuesday, recording a match-high 42 assists, to go along with eight digs, two kills and two service aces. Her play in the IU/adidas Classic earned her a spot on the all-tournament team. In the first match Friday against North Carolina Central, Leszczynska posted 47 assists, along with four kills and four digs. Against East Tennessee State Saturday afternoon, she had 36 assists, five digs, four total blocks and a kill. In the championship match against hosts Indiana, Leszczynska had a phenomenal match-high 51 assists, with two digs and a kill. The 6-0 senior averaged 14.67 assists per game, 1.58 digs per game, 0.67 kills per game and 0.58 blocks per game for the week.
Leszczynska currently leads the Red Storm and all BIG EAST players with 731 assists this season, averaging 13.79 assists per game.
Also representing St. John's among BIG EAST individual leaders are seniors Hui Ping Huang and Latoya Blunt, as well as junior Lena Yee. Huang and Blunt rank first and second among conference players in hitting percentage with .434 and .378 respectively. Huang also ranks fourth in total kills with 187, while Blunt ranks tenth in blocks per game with 1.14. Yee is fifth with an average 4.59 digs per game.
St. John's currently sits at 14-2 overall on the season. Among BIG EAST schools, the Red Storm is ranked first in hitting percentage (.274), kills (925, 17.13 per game), and assists (871, 16.13 per game). St. John's also ranks third in digs per game with 16.68.
Leszczynska, Huang, Blunt, Yee and the rest of the Red Storm return to action Tuesday night when they travel to the Bronx to take on the Rams of Fordham University. First serve of the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
