QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Carnesecca Arena to open a two-game BIG EAST homestand when it welcomes No. 14 West Virginia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
• The game will feature live stats and will have video and audio streamed on the internet. Fans can go to RedStormSports.com to access both features. • The contest with No. 14 West Virginia marks the second-straight ranked opponent that the Red Storm has faced. St. John's is coming off a tough 91-80 overtime loss to then-No. 23/22 DePaul on Tuesday. The Red Storm (10-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) played the Blue Demons close throughout, but couldn't overcome its league opponent in the extra period. After suffering an 84-48 loss to UConn, West Virginia has won two straight games for a 13-3, 3-1 BIG EAST record.
• St. John's and West Virginia meet up for the 18th time in history. The Mountaineers have controlled the series, posting a record of 13-4 against the Red Storm. However, St. John's has performed better at home, splitting the series 3-3 including winning the last game at Carnesecca Arena 74-69 on Jan. 29, 2006. This season alone, the Red Storm has been successful at home with a 6-1 slate in Queens.
Alumnae Day
• Prior to the game on Saturday, the women's basketball team host its annual Alumnae Day. The festivities will start at 11 a.m. with the alumnae game at Taffner Field House. A buffet lunch will follow at 1 p.m. and then all attendees are invited to watch the women's basketball game against West Virginia.
• A $25 donation to the women's basketball program is suggested. T-shirts, game tickets and lunch is included. For more information or to reserve a spot, please contact Carolyn Young by Jan. 14 at youngc1@stjohns.edu or 718-990-7906.
