QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team (10-9, 1-5 BIG EAST) continues its road trip when it travels to play Seton Hall (13-5, 3-3 BIG EAST) on Tuesday in South Orange, N.J. Tip-off is slated for 8:05 p.m.
• The game will be televised live by College Sports Television (CSTV), marking the second-straight televised game for the Red Storm. Greg Amsinger will be calling the action while Debbie Antonelli will provide the color analysis.
• The Red Storm is coming off a tough stretch of games and will be looking to snap it four-game losing streak. All the losses were at the hands of Top 25 opponents. On Saturday, St. John's traveled to No. 24 Syracuse and lost 80-52. The losing streak is the longest of the season for the Red Storm, who had only lost consecutive games once this season. In addition, six of its last eight opponents have been ranked in the Top 25.
• St. John's and Seton Hall meet up for the 53rd time in history. Both teams have played each other close throughout the years and the series record reflects that, as the Red Storm has the slight edge all-time, 27-25. St. John's lost last year's contest by a small margin, 59-54, which snapped the team's two-game win streak against SHU. St. John's has won four of the last six games between the two teams.
Last Year's Meeting Against Seton Hall
• St. John's got 16 and 15 points from upperclassmen Kia Wright and Tiina Sten, respectively, but Seton Hall closed out a tight game by holding the Red Storm scoreless in the last minute and a half of play to earn a 59-54 victory on Feb. 24, 2007, at Walsh Gymnasium.
• With the score knotted at 54-54 with 1:30 left in the game, Seton Hall's Ela Mukosiej drained a baseline jumper to give the Pirates what would be the game-winning basket. St. John's could not score on its final few possessions and dropped the road contest by a five-point margin.
Storm Tracker
• The Red Storm's has outscored its opponents this season by an average of 4.1 points. The team is averaging 67.1 points per game, while its opposition nets 63.0 per contest.
• St. John's is also more effective in its shooting, both overall and from long range. The team is connecting on 40.6 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from downtown, while holding its opponents to 38.2 from the field and 29.9 from 3-point range.
• On the defensive side, St. John's has been a menace to other teams this year thanks to its shot blocking. The team is swatting an average of 4.31balls per game and has out-blocked its opponent on 11 occasions.
Rebounding Machine
• Freshman Centhya Hart could not be denied on the boards against USF and Syracuse. Against the Bulls,, she pulled in a career and team-best 18 rebounds. Her rebounding effort ties for sixth place in the St. John's single-game record books and is the most rebounds by a Red Storm player since Cozette Ballentine nabbed 18 against Pittsburgh on Jan, 23, 1991. Hart powered her way on both the offensive and defensive side, pulling in nine boards on each end en route to her first-career double-digit rebounding game. Against Syracuse on Jan. 26, Hart posted her second-career double-digit rebounding effort with 10 boards. She led the team in that category, collecting two offensive rebounds and eight defensive ones.
Think Pink
• The St. John's women's basketball team is celebrating its 11th annual Women in Sports Day on Feb. 2 by participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Think Pink" campaign to raise money for breast cancer research.
• The Red Storm's game against Marquette on Feb. 2 is designated as the "Think Pink" game. Tickets to the event will be priced at a special rate of $3.
• The day will begin with the Women in Sports Clinic, which is open to children ages 13 and under. The event will run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and is free with a ticket to the game but registration is required by calling 1-888-GO-STORM. Check-in will begin promptly at 10 a.m. The multi-sport clinic will feature other St. John's coaches and athletes, including volleyball, soccer and softball. In 2006, there were more than 200 participants.
• Attendees can then make their way to Carnesecca Arena to watch the Red Storm take on BIG EAST rival Marquette at 2 p.m. At halftime, special guest Lisa Leslie Lockwood of the Los Angeles Sparks will be on hand to honor breast cancer survivors.
• A variety of promotional items will be given out at the game, including "Think Pink" t-shirts, wrist bands and other pink items.
• St. John's is also teaming up with the American Cancer Society to help raise money for the campaign. Donation boxes will be set up in the lobby of Carnesecca Arena for the remainder of the women's basketball season.
• Fans that cannot make it out to a Red Storm game this season can still donate by visiting www.WBCA.org. The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success. The WBCA's "Think Pink" week for 2008 will be held February 8 - 17.
