QUEENS, N.Y. -
Head coach Amy Kvilhaug and the St. John's softball hosted the third annual 100-Out Fundraiser Game, Thursday, Oct. 9 at Red Storm Field on St. John's University's Queen's campus. All players and coaches participated in the event benefiting the Red Storm softball program.
"The entire day was a great success," said Kvilhaug. "It was definitely a win-win situation for the program as we were able to hold a large fundraiser while working on in-game situations. Every year the event gets better and better with the continued support and generosity of our friends, family and alumni."
The squad was split evenly into red and white teams and played through the day for one hundred outs. In the end the red team downed the white team 28-13. The event was used to give the players an opportunity to fine tune their skills and go over specific in-game situations that the team will face in its games this season.
The red team featured assistant coach Laura Taylor and players: senior Melissa Pilley, junior Shauntaine Harris, sophomores Kat Lawrence and Kacee Cox and freshmen Meghan Gwynn, Julia Sanchez, and Kristi Cady. The red team was comprised of seniors Alyssa Clark, and Roxy Struble, sophomores Linzee Sumrall, Erin Harris and Chelsea Durning and freshmen Laura Guzman, Rachel Paragas, Jenna Berger and Shannan Valentin.
Players and coaches were at Red Storm field at 6 a.m. to clear the field of the tarp and water that had accumulated due to rain storms over Wednesday night.
Questions about the event as well as donations, which are still being accepted, can be directed to coach Kvilhaug at kvilhaua@stjohns.edu.
