QUEENS, N.Y. - With the game-wining goal over then-No. 15 Rutgers on Friday, St. John's women's soccer player Courtney Lane earned the BigAppleSoccer.com Goal Of The Week honor.
The defender scored her first-career goal in the 55th minute against the Scarlet Knights in a 1-0 victory. Sarah McGrath took the ball down the right side of the field and crossed to Lane, who was on the opposite side of the field. Lane faked a move and then took the shot, bending it to the left side past the diving goalie.
On the weekend, Lane was the team's offensive leader with three points. On Sunday, she helped the Red Storm post its third-straight win, picking up the assist on the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Seton Hall. She was just as stellar defensively, as Lane was an integral part in the pair of shutouts and in helping STJ set the new season record with 10 shutouts this year.
