Women's Basketball Plays No. 10 Baylor Close

WACO, Texas - Monique McLean scored 16 points and Sky Lindsay added 11, but that was not enough to match up with No. 10 Baylor, as the St. John's women's basketball team lost, 75-65, on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.The Red Storm record now stands at 7-1, while the Lady Bears improve to 7-1.
After only posting four points in the first half, McLean turned things in the final frame and scored 12 to finish with 16. She was 6-of-15 from the field, 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. The senior also led the way with a team-high eight rebounds.
Lindsay scored eight second-half points to finish second on the team with an 11-point performance. She was 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line, in addition to registering a block and a steal.
Off the bench, Centhya Hart chipped in eight points to finish third in scoring. The sophomore saw 21 minutes of action and was 3-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. For BU, Rachel Allison scored 18 points and Jessica Morrow added 13 off the bench. Baylor went on a 9-0 run early in the first half to take a 10-point lead and seize control. A 7-0 run later in the first half put the Lady Bears up 12.
Late in the game, the Red Storm got its offense into motion and cut the BU lead to 10 points, 73-63, with 1:27 remaining. St. John's could not come any closer as Baylor held on for the victory.
STJ got off to a slow start offensively, shooting 35.7 percent from the field, but improved to outshoot Baylor in the final frame, 63.6 to 46.7.
St. John's will return to action on Saturday when it travels to face local rival LIU at 2 p.m.
