QUEENS, N.Y. - After earning an at-large bid and a first round bye to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), St. John's women's basketball head coach Kim Barnes Arico and select players spent some time talking with Inside The Red Storm about the WNIT second round game against Iona at Carnesecca Arena on Monday at 7 p.m.
Barnes Arico greets fans with a special video invite to the game on Monday night. In only six years at the helm of the program, she has turned the Red Storm around and led it to three postseason appearances, becoming the first coach to achieve the feat since Don Perrelli did so from 1982-84.
Seniors Tiina Sten and Kia Wright, and sophomore Joy McCorvey each talk to Inside The Red Storm about their preparations for the contest, what they can build on from their strong finish on the season and what it means to continue the 2007-08 campaign. There are also some highlights from practice.
Iona (20-13) defeated Quinnipiac on Wednesday, 71-59, to advance to face St. John's. The meeting between the Gaels and the Red Storm (16-14) is the 13th meeting all-time between the schools. St. John's has a commanding lead in the series, 10-2. However, it was Iona that prevailed in the last meeting, 66-56, at Carnesecca Arena on Nov. 9, 2006. Ironically, the last meeting was during the first round of the 2006 Preseason WNIT. St. John's boasts a 5-1 slate at home against the Gaels.
Tickets to the event are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Fans can purchase tickets at the Carnesecca Arena Ticket Office on game day. Gates open on Monday at 6 p.m. All tickets are general admission seating. The game will feature a St. John's rally towel giveaway.
Fans that are unable to make it to Queens will have the opportunity to watch the game live, as RedStormSports.com will be streaming live video and audio of the contest, in addition to providing live stats.
