Kvilhaug Announces Addition of Andy Russo To Staff

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's head softball coach Amy Kvilhaug has announced that Andy Russo will join the staff as an assistant coach. The newcomer will split his time working with the infield and outfield while also assisting in hitting, scouting and recruiting.
"I am excited about the new addition of Andy Russo to our staff," said Kvilhaug. "Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to St. John's and will benefit the growth of our program. We are building our program into a top contender in the conference and the in the NCAA, and Andy has shown commitment and the ability to help us achieve our goals. I believe he will emerge as a large asset to the program."
The Manalapan, N.J. native joins St. John's after spending last season as a volunteer assistant coach with local rival Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y. Russo is a founder and current board member of the Central Jersey Tornado Girls Fastpitch Softball Organization (CJTSO). The league is a non-profit organization in its seventh year of existence and provides high-level competition for girls at the 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under age levels.
Russo has served as a head coach for the past 11 years at the 10-18 and under level and presently boasts 12 players who have moved onto the collegiate level. The longtime coach also owned his own business, Tri-County Fuel Oil, which he recently sold. The company specialized in the sale of residential and commercial heating oil. Russo attended Middlesex County College, where he majored in business administration.
