Baseball Alum Delaney Called Up To Class AA New Britain

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's baseball alum Rob Delaney has earned a promotion to the New Britain Rock Cats, the Class AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Delaney, a right handed pitcher, is in his third season in the Minnesota organization after signing as a free agent following his 2006 season with the Red Storm.
In seven appearances thus far with New Britain, Delaney is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11.0 innings of work. The righty has allowed just a .184 opponent average.
Delaney was called up by the Rock Cats after opening the 2008 season with the Class A-Advanced Fort Myers Miracle, where he was named a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star. In 23 appearances, the righty posted a 1.42 ERA, a 1-2 record and also added 13 saves.
In 2007, Delaney split time with the Class A Beloit Snappers and the Miracle. With Beloit, the reliever was 1-0 with 28 saves and a 0.77 ERA in 36 appearances. After being called up by the Miracle, Delaney was 2-0 with seven saves and a 1.54 ERA in 17 appearances. The righty was named the MiLB.com Class A Relief Pitcher of the Year and also earned both Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star honors in the Midwest League.
After signing, Delaney went 1-3 with two saves in 17 appearances with the GCL Twins before being called up to the Miracle where he pitched 5.0 innings over three appearances.
In his final season with St. John's, Delaney earned the 2006 Howie Gershberg Award as the team's most outstanding pitcher and also served as a team captain.
