QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's men's golf team sits in eighth place after the first round of the 25th Annual Georgetown Invitational on Monday at The Members Club at Four Streams (Beallsville, Md.) after the squad combined for a 303 (+19).
"Conditions were a little difficult out here today," STJ head coach Frank Darby said. "We'll make a charge tomorrow."
Washington State leads the field at 1-over 285. The Cougars' Hank Frame leads all individuals after shooting a 68 (-3).
St. John's freshman Jeremy Quinn is tied for 12th place after shooting 37 on the front nine holes and a 37 on the back nine en route to a team-best 74 (+3). Senior Mike Ballo Jr. sits tied for 15th after a first-round 75 (+4).
Senior Evan Beirne and junior Mark Costanza each carded a 77 (+6) to head into Tuesday's second round tied for 29th. Freshman Peter Ballo rounded out the Red Storm's five-man team with an 84 (+13).
Due to heavy rains and frost over the past few days, the teams only played 18 holes instead of the scheduled 36 on Monday. The tournament has been changed to a 36-hole event with the final round starting on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
