St. John's Faces Providence In BIG EAST Semifinals

QUEENS, N.Y. - After a win in the quarterfinals, the St. John's men's soccer team will play Providence in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals. The Red Storm and Friars will take to the field at Dick Dlesk Stadium at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. Live stats will be available at www.bigeast.org. The game will also air live on the CBS College Sports Network. The winner will move to the BIG EAST Finals at noon on Nov. 15.
Stat Of The Week
19-0-3: St. John's unbeaten against Providence dating back to a 1-0 win on Oct. 28, 1989. The Red Storm won 15-straight in the series between 1989 and 2004.
Inside The Series With Providence
- This will be the 25th meeting in a series that began in 1987.
- St. John's leads the all-time series 19-2-3, including a scoreless draw earlier this season on Sept. 27.
- The Red Storm has a 22 game unbeaten streak (19-0-3) in the series dating back to a 1-0 win on Oct. 28, 1989.

NCAA Releases Third RPI Rankings
- The NCAA released its third Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2009 season and St. John's comes in at No. 21.
- Seven BIG EAST squads appear in the top-50, including Notre Dame (No. 30), Louisville (No. 34), and Connecticut (No. 36).
- A key element in NCAA Tournament selection, RPI is a statistical measure used by the NCAA that combines winning percentage, strength of schedule and road victories to assess the overall quality of a team's performance.
St. John's Returns To NSCAA Rankings
- With an 11-game unbeaten streak (6-0-5), St. John's has returned to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and is ranked No. 24.
- The Red Storm is also No. 14 in the Soccer America Top 25.
St. John's Extends Unbeaten Streak To 11 Games
- With a 3-0 win against Rutgers, St. John's extended its current unbeaten streak to 11 games (6-0-5).
- The Red Storm has outscored the opposition 18-7, while posting five shutouts.
- The streak began with a scoreless draw at Providence on Sept. 27 and includes a 1-0-2 record against ranked teams.
Hoffer Tallies Game-Winner Against Rutgers For Second Time
- Kyle Hoffer scored his second-career game-winning goal in a 3-0 win against Rutgers in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals.
- It was the second game-winning goal this year for Hoffer and both came against Rutgers.
- Hoffer tallied his first-career game-winner in a 2-0 win against the Scarlet Knights on Oct. 7.
Tardy Notches First Points In A Red Storm Uniform
- Junior John Tardy, a transfer fromClemson, picked up his first points in a Red Storm uniform.
- Tardy tallied his first-career goal and first-career assist for St. John's in a 3-0 win against Rutgers.
- After assisting on the game-winning goal in the 69th minute for his first-career Red Storm point, Tardy added a goal of his own in the 73rd minute.
Carrillo Posts Third-Straight Shutout
- Derby Carrillo made one save against Rutgers to post his third-straight shutout and ninth of the year.
- Before blanking Rutgers, Carrillo also posted shutouts against DePaul and Syracuse.
- The keeper has not allowed a goal since Oct. 24 at Cincinnati, a span of 313:49.
