St. John's Hosts Rutgers In BIG EAST Quarterfinals

QUEENS, N.Y. - After a first round bye, the St. John's men's soccer team (7-2-8) will host Rutgers (9-9-0) in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals. The Red Storm and Scarlet Knights will take to the field at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Live stats will be available through GameTracker, while live video will be provided courtesy of StormTracker All-Access. The winner will move to the semifinals on Nov. 13 in Morgantown, W. Va.
Stat Of The Week
16-0-4: St. John's home unbeaten streak dating back to a 2-2 tie against Seton Hall on Nov. 7, 2007. The Red Storm has not been defeated at home since dropping a 2-0 decision to DePaul on Oct. 27, 2007.
Inside The Series With Rutgers
- This will be 22nd meeting in a series that began in 1994.
- St. John's leads a tightly-contested all-time series 9-5-7, including a 3-2-5 mark at home.

All-Time In The BIG EAST Tournament
- This is St. John's 19th-straight appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament and 22nd overall. The Red Storm is 28-13-3 all-time in tournament play.
- St. John's has won seven BIG EAST Tournament titles (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2006) and has reached the title game 11 times.
Carrillo, Lade Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors
- Derby Carrillo and Connor Lade each earned BIG EAST weekly honors for the final week of the regular season.
- Carrillo was named the Goalkeeper of the Week, while Lade earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
- Carrillo made four saves in posting consecutive shutouts against DePaul and Syracuse, his seventh and eighth shutouts of the year.
- Lade, meanwhile, scored his first-career goal in a 2-0 win against Syracuse and also helped a defensive unit that allowed just a total of four shots on goal on the weekend.
Gustafsson Named To Academic All-District Second Team
- Senior Joel Gustafsson has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District second team as presented by ESPN The Magazine.
- This is the second-straight year that Gustafsson has earned second team academic all-district honors.
- A philosophy major with a 3.40 grade point average, Gustafsson has appeared in all 17 games and has made 16 starts.
- The senior has one assist, setting up the game-winner against Rutgers, and has helped a defensive unit that has posted eight shutouts on the year.
Hines Tallies First-Career Game-Winner
- Sophomore forward Walter Hines tallied his first-career game-winning goal to lead St. John's to a 2-0 win against DePaul.
- With the goal, also his first of the season, Hines became the sixth-different player to tally a game-winner for St. John's this year.
NCAA Releases Second RPI Rankings
- The NCAA released its second Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2009 season and St. John's comes in at No. 27.
- Six BIG EAST squads appear in the top-50, including Connecticut (No. 30), USF (No. 34), and Notre Dame (No. 36).
- A key element in NCAA Tournament selection, RPI is a statistical measure used by the NCAA that combines winning percentage, strength of schedule and road victories to assess the overall quality of a team's performance.
