QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's senior first/third baseman Roxy Struble was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday after a phenomenal start to the 2009 season at the Blue and Gold Felsburg Memorial FIU Tournament in Miami, Fla. this past weekend.
Struble was locked in during the five-game tournament for the Red Storm, recording a hit in every game she played. The senior finished with a .500 batting average (8-16) with five runs, two doubles, a home run, six RBI, an .813 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage, leading St. John's to a 3-2 record, the third-best start in program history. Struble played four games at first and one at third for St. John's, adding 24 putouts and one assist.
St. John's clean-up hitter was beat out for Player of the Week by DePaul's Becca Heteniak, who batted .533 with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI. She also went 2-1 in the circle for the Blue Demons.
This is the fifth time that Struble has been honored by the BIG EAST in her career. She was named to the Honor Roll during the week of March 17, 2006 and April 2, 2007 and was named BIG EAST Player of the Week last season on March 24, 2008. Struble was also an All-BIG EAST third team selection in 2007.
The Red Storm prepares for the weekend as the team heads to Farmville, Va. to take part in the Longwood Softball Tournament. St. John's faces-off against Longwood on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., and Bucknell at noon. On Sunday, Feb. 22, the squad will take on Quinnipiac at 10 a.m. and then plays at either 2 or 4 p.m. in seeded play.
