Fields Set For 2009 BIG EAST Tennis Championships

QUEENS, N.Y. - Officials at the BIG EAST Conference announced the fields for the 2009 BIG EAST Tennis Championships, set to begin on Thursday, April 16 in Tampa, Fla. The Red Storm men's tennis team was selected as the sixth seed, while the women's squad qualified as the 11th seed. This is the fifth straight season that both teams have qualified for the event, which will be held on the campus of the University of South Florida.
The men's squad finished the regular season with a 10-9 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm will square off against third-seeded USF at noon on Friday, April 17 at the Varsity Courts. The winner of that match will face the winner of the No. 2 Notre Dame/No. 7 Georgetown match in the semifinals on Saturday at 9 a.m.
The St. John's women's team ended the regular season on a three-match winning streak, improving its record to 7-12 overall (5-6 BIG EAST). The squad will take on sixth-seeded Louisville at noon on Thursday, April 16 at the Varsity Courts. The winner will move on to face No. 3 USF at the Andros Dorm Courts on Friday at noon.
