PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The St. John's women's tennis team swept Providence, 6-0, on the road Wednesday to earn its fourth conference victory of the season. With the win, the Red Storm improved to 5-12 overall (4-6 BIG EAST), as Providence fell to 2-8 (0-4 BIG EAST).
STJ earned straight-set victories at each position of the singles lineup. Senior Ira Aleksova, sophomore Jenny Yonkus and freshman Joanna Zwirbulis all earned their team-leading seventh wins of the season. Senior Gabija Gasiunaite earned her first victory in six matches, while freshman Nakita Austin won her second straight. Freshman Ksenia Mikhaylova rounded out the Red Storm points with her fifth win of the season.
Doubles play was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow, April 9, when the squad travels to South Orange, N.J. to take on BIG EAST foe Seton Hall at 11 a.m.
