Vaila Barsley Named To W-League Team Of The Week

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer player Vaila Barsley has been named to the United Soccer League (USL) W-League Team of the Week, as announced by the organization.
Playing for the Long Island Rough Riders, Barsley helped lead her squad to a pair of victories May 23-24 with wins over the Western Mass Lady Pioneers, 2-0, and the Connecticut Passion, 4-1. The defender scored a goal off a header in the team's rout of Connecticut and logged 165 minutes of action as she led the defensive unit.
Barsley has been a top defender for the Red Storm women's soccer team for the past three seasons. In 2008, she anchored the defensive line that set the new program record with 10 shutouts and a 0.593 goals against average. She also helped STJ finish 11th in the nation in goals against average and 26th in the nation with a 0.526 shutout percentage.
Hailing from Great Yarmouth, England, Barsley garnered Soccer Buzz All-Northeast second team honors in addition to being named to the to the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region team last year. She tallied a goal and an assist - both coming in BIG EAST play - and helped the 2008 squad post five shutouts in conference action, including over then-No. 11 West Virginia, 0-0, on Sept. 25 and then-No. 15 Rutgers, 1-0, on Oct. 17.
