QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer players Tara Mendoza, C.J. Ludemann and Kaitlin Haas have earned weekly honors for leading the Red Storm to a pair of victories this past weekend, including a come-from-behind upset win over then-No. 12/25 Indiana.
Mendoza was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week. A senior defender, Mendoza played all 90 minutes of regulation on Friday and helped the Red Storm shut out LIU, 1-0, to end the Blackbirds' perfect mark on the year. The reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week saw action in all 90 minutes against then-No. 12/25 Indiana and helped hold the potent Hoosier offense to only one goal as the Red Storm came from behind to win the contest, 2-1. Mendoza helped spark the comeback, as she assisted on the game-tying goal to register her first assist of the season.
Thanks to a three-point weekend, Ludemann was named to CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performer of the Week team. The senior had a huge offensive weekend for the Red Storm and led the team to the upset win over then-No. 12/25 Indiana. Ludemann pressured on offense and scored the game-tying goal against the Hoosiers. Three minutes later, she assisted on the game-winning goal.
Haas garnered her first weekly honor of the season, earning BigAppleSoccer.com's Goal of the Week. The senior scored the game-winning goal to end then-No. 12/25 Indiana's six-game win streak and lead STJ to the come-from-behind win. The goal was the first of the season from Haas and her first since the 2007 campaign.
The No. 18 Red Storm (5-1) will look to continue its winning streak on Friday at 5 p.m. when it opens BIG EAST action at Belson Stadium with Syracuse. The game is a doubleheader with the STJ men's team, who hosts Georgetown at 8 p.m.
