QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's athletic department has hired Said Hamdan to the position of associate athletic trainer, the school announced Wednesday. Hamdan will be primarily responsible for the Red Storm men's soccer and baseball teams.
Hamdan is a nationally respected N.A.T.A. Certified Athletic Trainer with 24 years of experience at the college and professional levels.
"St. John's sports medicine is very fortunate to have a trainer with the depth of experience as Hamdan," said Ron Linfonte, assistant athletic director for sports medicine. "He will make a great addition to our staff."
In addition to his role at St. John's, Hamdan currently serves as the Medical Coordinator for the referees of the NBA.
Prior to joining St. John's, Hamdan served as the co-owner and Chief Operating Officer of I.C.E. Sports Health Group, an exclusive one-on-one physical therapy practice with locations in New York and Washington, D.C.
Hamdan joined I.C.E. in 2004 after serving for seven years as the assistant athletic trainer of the New York Knicks, including the 1999-2000 Eastern Conference Championship team.
After earning his M.S. in Athletic Training and Sports Science Education in 1986 from Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y., Hamdan stayed on as the head athletic trainer for the Blackbirds. He spent 11 years providing on-field emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation for student-athletes at the Division I level.
During his tenure at LIU, Hamdan worked at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the U.S. Olympic training center in Lake Placid, N.Y., as he trained with prospective athletes for the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Hamdan earned his undergraduate degree from CUNY-Brooklyn. He and his wife Denise have two children, 16-year old Matthew and 12-year old Christina.
