QUEENS, N.Y. - Following an 0-0-2 week in which St. John's played consecutive scoreless draws at home against Syracuse and then-No. 5 Connecticut, Connor Lade was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Lade joins Kyle Hoffer (Sept. 20) as the second Red Storm player this year to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Lade helped anchor a defensive unit that limited the Syracuse offense to just two shots on goal in a 0-0 draw. Lade and the defense then blanked a Connecticut offense that was tied for the nation's lead in goals scored and had been shut out just once in the first 12 games. St. John's allowed just six shots on goal in the 0-0 tie against the Huskies.
Redshirt freshman Rafael Diaz made eight saves on the week to post back-to-back shutouts, including his first-career BIG EAST shutout on Oct. 13 against Syracuse. Diaz currently has a career-long scoreless streak of 254:55.
St. John's (6-5-2, 0-3-2) ranks tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in goals scored (20) and fourth in assists (21). The Red Storm also ranks fourth in the conference with six shutouts.
