St. John's Claims 4-3 Victory Over Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season at Columbia on Sunday with a 4-3 victory. The Red Storm defeated the Lions at the No. 3, 4, 5 & 6 positions to take the match after Columbia had earned the doubles point.
Sophomore Joanna Zwirbulis continued her hot streak with her third consecutive win, a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Chelsea Davis. Jenny Yonkus continued at No. 4 with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 performance against Eliza Matache.
Newcomer Anastasia Zavorgodini captured her first win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Carling Donovan. Nakita Austin sealed the team win as she took care of the No. 6 match with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Diana Shapoval.
Zwirbulis and doubles partner Ksenia Mikhaylova also won the No. 2 doubles matchup with Natasha Makarova and Davis, 8-4.
The Red Storm continues spring action on Friday, Feb. 5 against Boston University in Dartmouth, N.H.
