Rutgers Tops St. John's, 5-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The St. John's women's tennis squad fell in 5-2 to Rutgers on the road on Thursday afternoon in Piscataway to begin the final week of the regular season. The Scarlet Knights used to doubles point to top the Red Storm as it moves to 8-10 on the season. The match was the first in a three-day BIG EAST conference road stretch.
Rutgers earned the doubles point after three wins in the doubles category before handing St. John's straight-set defeats at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. No. 3 Ece Firat claimed the first point for St. John's with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Katherine Arlak.
No. 4 Ksenia Mikhaylova provided the only other point for the Red Storm with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Leonora Slatnick.
St. John's returns to action on Friday, April 16, traveling to Connecticut for a 3 p.m. match with the Huskies.
