QUEENS, N.Y. - Highlighted by his four home run and seven RBI performance in an 8-5 win against then-No. 8 Louisville, Jeremy Baltz has earned both BIG EAST and National honors. In addition to being named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the freshman was also selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week. Baltz tied a single-game BIG EAST record with his four home run game and currently leads the nation in home runs by a freshman with 18.
Baltz batted .500 (9-for-18) for the week with five home runs, two doubles, nine RBI and nine runs scored. The freshman had 26 total bases, a 1.444 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage.
After going 3-for-6 with two doubles, one home run and two RBI against NYIT to open the week, Baltz had a career-day in the series-opening win against the Cardinals. In that game, the freshman was 4-for-5 with four home runs and seven RBI. After blasting a solo shot in the second inning, the left fielder added two-run home runs in the third, eighth and ninth innings.
The performance by Baltz in that game also had an impact on the St. John's record books as the freshman broke the single season school-records in both home runs and RBI as he finished the day with 18 home runs and 68 RBI.
