QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's rising senior Priscilla Frederick and rising sophomore Stephanie Barnes will travel to Des Moines, Iowa and the campus of Drake University to compete in the 2010 USATF Outdoor National Championships this weekend. Saturday's action will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Frederick will be making her second appearance in this meet as she finished fifth in the high jump at the Junior Nationals back in 2008. Frederick will now be jumping in the Senior Division where she is seeded 12th among all entrants.
The native of Sicklerville, N.J. is coming off a phenomenal showing at the Outdoor NCAA Championships where she placed sixth and earned her second All-American designation of the year. Frederick's best jump of 1.84 meters (6 feet 0.5 inches) ranks tops in St. John's history while she is also the only women's track & field athlete to be named All-American twice in one year.
Barnes will compete at the Championships for the first time in her young career as she will be a part of the Junior Nationals in the triple jump. She is also seeded 12th going into the event with her best jump of the year coming at the Indoor ECAC Championships where she jumped 11.94 meters (39 feet 2 inches).
A native of Bay Shore, N.Y., Barnes most recently won the triple jump in the trials for the Empire State Games which will be held in Buffalo on July 21-25.
Frederick and Barnes will not be the only representatives of St. John's at the meet. Red Storm alum Grace Zollman, who graduated after the 2006 season, will take part in the javelin throw event. She is seeded 15th overall with a top distance of 48.25 meters (158 feet 3.5 inches). Zollman is currently sponsored by the Central Park Track Club.
