QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's softball coach Amy Kvilhaug announced on Tuesday the addition of Devin Amar, Fachon Jones, Kelsey Moyer and Myriah Rodgers to the Red Storm's 2010 recruiting class.
"We are really excited about the addition of Kelsey, Devin, Myriah and Fachon to our program," Kvilhaug said. "They all come with a high level of softball ability and experience that is sure to make an impact on the quality of our team. I love the depth and versatility this group adds to the program as each player has the ability to vie for a starting spot in one or more positions. All of these student-athletes are wonderful people who share the passion to succeed at the highest level of Division I softball."
Devin Amar - C/1B | Rio Mesa HS | Oxhard, Calif.
A three-year starter behind the plate, Amar is coming off of an impressive senior campaign when she helped Rio Mesa reach the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs. She led the team with four home runs while hitting .443 with one double and 15 RBI. She garnered All-Pacific View League first team honors as a senior in 2010 and second team recognition as a junior in 2009. Amar's 2009 So Cal Pumas travel softball team finished in third place at ASA 18U Nationals.
Fachon Jones - OF | Pittsburg HS/Tallahassee CC | Pittsburg, Calif.
As a sophomore at Tallahassee Community College in 2010, Jones was a first-team selection for the Coaches' All-Panhandle Conference Softball Teams for the second straight year. She ranked second on the team in batting average (.386), hits (68) and steals (20). Her 68 hits were the seventh-most in NJCAA Region 8 and her 20 steals ranked 10th. Jones also totaled 32 runs scored, three doubles, 16 RBI and 15 walks.
Kelsey Moyer - OF/IF | Carlsbad HS | Carlsbad, Calif.
Moyer was selected to the All-Division I Section team by the San Diego Hall of Champions. She played three years of varsity softball and was team captain as a senior in 2009. Moyer also ran cross country for three years and as a freshman she helped Carlsbad reach the California State Championships. In 2009 her 18U travel softball team, the Carlsbad Aces, reached the Triple Crown 18U Nationals. In 2008, Moyer's So Cal Breakers 16U travel team took second in the ASA West Regional.
Myriah Rodgers - 1B/UT | Hopkins HS | Menifee, Calif.
Rodgers played softball from 2007-09 at Vista Murrieta High School (Murrieta, Calif.) before transferring to Hopkins High school (Minnetonka, Minn.) for her senior year. As a junior in 2009, Rodgers hit .304 with three home runs, two doubles, three triples while helping lead the team to a 27-5 record with a third straight Southwest League title and a runner-up finish in the CIF Division 2 Finals. As a sophomore in 2008, she hit .373 with one home run, three doubles, three triples and 11 RBI. Rodgers was team captain of the Riptide Gold Fastpitch ASA softball travel team in Southern California from 2008-10 and team captain of the Dynasty Fastpitch ASA softball travel team in Southern California from 2004-08.
Amar, Jones, Moyer and Rodgers join the trio of Ashley Beza, Jackie Reed and Michelle Tilson announced last fall as members of the Red Storm's 2010 recruiting class.
