St. John's Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
On Nadirah McKenith's performance tonight
"Nadirah McKenith is one of the best players in the country coming into this year. I was disappointed, as was she, in her performance in the first game. She really made a commitment to turn that around and has really made getting better every single night her focus. Tonight, she showed what kind of player she could be."
On what the team did to rebound from the season-opening loss to St. Bonaventure:
"Like Nadirah said, we just had to defend better. Coming down the stretch, we have to defend throughout the whole game, not just in spurts. The team did a tremendous job of that tonight. Nadirah did a great job of leading this team as well, which is something she continues to work on. She was tremendous on the floor tonight."
Junior Guard Nadirah McKenith
On scoring a career-high 26 points and tying a career-high seven steals:
"I've been working hard in practice. I played terrible in the first game and I take the blame for that loss. I just wanted to come out tonight and get a win for my team. As the flow of the game kept going, I realized that I was scoring, my jump shot was falling, and I was getting to the basket, so I just kept being aggressive on the offensive end as well as on the defensive end to get my team going."
On what the team did to rebound from the season-opening loss to St. Bonaventure:
"We needed to get in the gym and work on our team defense and our individual defense. I played horrible defense in the first game so I came out tonight and played tough defense against my opponent - I did a good job."
La Salle Head Coach Jeff Williams
Opening statement:
"Tonight was a learning experience for our young kids. We played a very good St. John's team coming off a loss. I knew Nadirah McKenith would bring her 'A game', and she showed why she is one of the best point guards in the country."
On the play of Alexis Scott:
"Alexis really stepped it up tonight. I had her come off the bench today, so we could get more scoring out of her and she did really well getting the ball to the basket. She's our leading returning scorer with 12 points a game last year, so she was one of our few bright spots today."
