QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women soccer team will kick off its spring schedule in less than a month. The Red Storm will host seven squads at home, including the Japanese College Team.
The Red Storm's spring season starts on March 19 with a home contest against the Japanese College Team. Kick off is slated for 1 p.m.
The following weekend, St. John's will host Stony Brook and Villanova in a round robin afternoon starting with a match between the Sea Wolves and Red Storm at 10 a.m. on March 26. Stony Brook and Villanova will play the second game starting around 11:30 a.m. St. John's and Villanova will conclude the afternoon in a 1 p.m. matchup. In regular season play, St. John's is 3-13-2 against the Wildcats. The two teams did not play each other during the 2010 or 2009 seasons as Villanova is in the National Division, but Villanova won the last meeting between the BIG EAST squads, 3-0 on Oct. 3, 2008.
The Red Storm will host Fordham and University of Albany on April 2 in the same style round robin. St. John's and Fordham will have a rematch of their 2010 1-0 thriller at Hofstra (Sept. 5). After the Rams and Great Danes play at 11:30 a.m., St. John's will play Albany at 1 p.m.
April 9 takes the Red Storm on the road to play Connecticut and Providence in a BIG EAST American Division spring preview. During the 2010 regular season, St. John's played the two schools back-to-back, defeating the Huskies, 2-1, in a come-from-behind win (Sept. 23); but losing to the Friars, 1-0 (Sept. 26).
The next day, St. John's will host its annual Spring Alumnae game, where the current Red Storm players will have a chance to face off against some of St. John's previous stars. The alumni game is slated for 1 p.m. at Belson Stadium.
The next weekend, St. John's will make the trip to Manhattan in an old fashioned battle of the boroughs, playing both Columbia and Long Island University on Columbia's home turf.
The Red Storm will conclude its 2011 spring schedule with a Wednesday night match against the Delaware Blue Hens. Game time is schedule for 7:30 p.m. In the regular season, St. John's has only played Delaware three times, with a 2-1 advantage over the Blue Hens. During the fall season, the teams last played each other on Aug. 31, 2008. St. John's won the matchup, 1-0
