QUEENS, N.Y. (Aug 17, 2011)--St. John's alumnus Keegan Bradley made history on Sunday as the first former St. John's player to win a major golf championship, claiming the 93rd PGA Championship in exciting fashion.
Now Red Storm fans have an exclusive opportunity to see the newly minted major champion as he pushes towards his next championship goal, The FedExCup, through a special ticket offer from The Barclays.
The PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup begin with The Barclays next week where only the top 125 players in the FedExCup standings will be teeing it up at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J. Those who don't earn enough points via the last event of the Regular Season - this week's Wyndham Championship - will be on the sidelines as the race for the FedExCup title, and its $10 million bonus, begins on August 25 with the first round of The Barclays.
With his thrilling win last week at the PGA Championship, Bradley vaulted into the No. 4 position in FedExCup points, trailing only Nick Watney (No. 1), Steve Stricker (No. 2) and Luke Donald (No. 3). The top seven in FedExCup points are not only guaranteed a tee time at Plainfield Country Club next week, but are also secure in making it all the way to the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, the culminating event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup
Bradley won earlier this year at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, and with his win at the PGA in his first major championship appearance, he is a leading candidate for PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors and most certainly in the discussion for PGA TOUR Player of the Year. A strong showing in the Playoffs would only strengthen that argument.
The Barclays has been a part of the PGA TOUR schedule since 1967 when Jack Nicklaus won the inaugural event at Westchester Country Club. Since that time, some of the greatest players in the game have earned the title including World Golf Hall of Fame members Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, Hale Irwin, Curtis Strange and the new defending champion, Matt Kuchar, 2010 winner of The Barclays.
Many of the world's current top players have won the event as well, including two-time champions Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia, and four-time champion Vijay Singh. As the first of four events in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, The Barclays plays a leading role in the FedExCup, the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR season.
SJU and Keegan Bradley fans will be able to purchase a daily ground pass for just $35, $10 off the price to the general public, by clicking here. When prompted, the discount password is SJU. The offer is only good until 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, Aug. 19, so Red Storm fans must act quickly, as The Barclays expects a sellout.
Stay tuned to RedStormSports.com for all of Keegan Bradley's latest accomplishments, and be sure to catch him live at The Barclays next week as he pursues the FedEx Cup.
