Red Storm In Fifth After Day One Of McLaughlin

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2011)-The St. John's men's golf team opened their season on Friday, hosting the McLaughlin at Bethpage State Park's Red Course, tying for fifth after the first two rounds of play. Senior Mark Costanza and junior Pat Wilson are tied for 11th in individual play.
Play began at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start for the 18 competing teams, with the players playing 36-consecutive holes. Leading the way for the Red Storm in the first round were sophomore Ryan McCormick and Wilson, each carding even-par 70s, as St. John's sat in a tie for third place at 572 (+12).
In the second round, team captain Costanza found a groove, carding a team-low three-under 67 to follow up his first round 72 to come in for the day at 139(-1). Wilson followed up a solid first round with a 69 to also finish at 139(-1).
Junior Jeremy Quinn carded a 73 in the morning round, then followed that up with a 75 to come in for the day at 148(+8), while freshman Dylan Crowley, playing in his first collegiate tournament, carded a 77 in the opening round and a 74 in the second round to finish at 151.
Defending McLaughlin champion West Florida is in the team lead with 548(-12), while the Argonauts' Carlos Rodriguez is in the individual lead after carding 65-64-129(-11).
