QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's freshman goalkeeper Ellen Conway was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, after her undefeated week between the pipes for the Red Storm women's soccer program.
Conway, an Acton, Mass., native, went 2-0-0 in goal this weekend against Rutgers (Sept. 28) and Seton Hall (Sept. 30). She had six saves over the weekend, with three stops against the Scarlet Knights to help preserve her first-career BIG EAST shutout and three saves against Seton Hall.
Conway has three shutouts for the year and is 5-5-0 in goal for St. John's.
Conway was honored by the BIG EAST earlier this season, as she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 10. It is the third overall weekly award for St. John's as Sandra Osborn was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10 as well.
The last time the Red Storm had a BIG EAST Rookie of the Week was on Sept. 5, 2011 with Chelsey Martino.
Up next, the Red Storm (6-7-0, 2-4-0 BIG EAST) will look to extend its current win streak to three games as St. John's hosts Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. for the final home game of the season. St. John's has the rest of the week off from game play. Sunday's game is the annual Score For A Cure event for the Red Storm. T-shirts and other gear will be sold at the marketing table. St. John's will be wearing pink pregame shirts and pink shoelaces and tape. All proceeds from the pink materials will be donated to the American Cancer Society in memory of former teammate, Jen Leaverton's mother Joan, who passed away in April 2011.
