QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer junior midfielder/forward Amy Marron was announced to the All-BIG EAST third team on Thursday night, at the conference's annual postseason awards banquet held at the Hartford Marriott Downtown in Hartford, Conn. Marron was voted to the all-conference team by the league's 15 head coaches.
She is one of 11 members of the third team, of 33 all-conference honorees total. It is Marron's second-consecutive season on one of the postseason all-league teams. She earned All-BIG EAST second team accolades in 2011. She was also voted to the preseason All-BIG EAST team in 2012.
Marron, a Valhalla, N.Y., native, began her career at St. John's as a forward/midfielder. Midway through the 2012 season, due to the many injuries the Red Storm encountered throughout the season, she was moved to center back to help fill a more needed role for St. John's. In her first-ever appearance as a defender, Marron helped St. John's to two shutout wins, over local-rivals Rutgers (Sept. 28) and Seton Hall (Sept. 30). She played a vital part of a defense that held the Scarlet Knights and Pirates to just six shots on goal for weekend. Marron marked Olympian and All-BIG EAST first team member Jonelle Filigno of Rutgers, holding the forward to just one shot on goal for the 90 minutes of play.
Marron started in 12 games this season, after sitting out the first four games of 2012 with a hand injury and missing one midseason game with a head injury. She logged 1,093 minutes of playing time and scored a goal against Columbia (Sept. 9).
For her career, Marron has recorded 12 points, on four goals and four assists. She has played in 48 games for St. John's and started 47. She is also a 2010-11 and 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic team member.
