QUEENS, N.Y. - Already the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection and a third team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American, Jeremy Baltz added another preseason accolade, earning second team Preseason All-America honors from Baseball America.
One of two BIG EAST players to appear on one of the publication's three Preseason All-America teams, Baltz is joined on the second team by Connecticut second baseman L.J. Mazzilli.
A first team All-BIG EAST selection a season ago, Baltz batted .311 with 12 doubles, three triples and six home runs to post a .483 slugging percentage. The outfielder ranked tied for third in the BIG EAST with a team-best 60 RBI and also posted a .444 on-base percentage, while swiping seven bags in nine attempts.
The two-time first team All-BIG EAST selection, who was a consensus All-American and the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year as a freshman, has a .356 average, 30 home runs and 145 RBI in his first two seasons with the Red Storm.
St. John's opens the 2012 campaign at the fourth annual Big Ten-BIG EAST Challenge with games against Michigan State (Feb. 17), Minnesota (Feb. 18) and Illinois (Feb. 19).
