TAMPA, Fla. - After an overnight weather delay postponed the St. John's women's tennis team's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh until Saturday morning, the Red Storm's final consolation match against Cincinnati at the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Championship has been canceled due to thunderstorms in the Tampa area. St. John's finishes the 2012 season in a tie for ninth place.
With sophomore Diamond Adams clinching the 4-3 win against the Panthers with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 decision on Saturday morning, the Red Storm concludes the season with a 6-13 overall record, including four wins in league play and one at the league championship.
Junior Nevena Selakovic led STJ with 12 singles wins on the season, all coming at the No. 1 spot, while senior Nakita Austin followed close behind with nine victories. Classmates Ece Firat and Joanna Zwirbulis both capped their careers with eight singles wins in 2012. Firat and Ziwrbulis paired for four doubles wins as a team, while Adams and Selakovic picked up three as a duo.
