Queens, N.Y. -
In two weeks St. John's (7-5, 3-3) lacrosse will find itself exactly where it wanted to be at the beginning of the season; playing for the BIG EAST Championship at Villanova Stadium May 3 and 5.
The Red Storm will be the fourth seed and will meet No. 1 seed Notre Dame (5-0 BIG EAST) on Thursday, May 3. The other tournament matchup will be the host Villanova (4-1 BIG EAST) taking on No. 3 seed Syracuse (3-2 BIG EAST). The semifinal games will be broadcast on either ESPNU or ESPN3 with the championship slotted for ESPNU.
St. John's took care of business with an 8-4 win over Providence on Saturday, but a Syracuse loss to Georgetown had the Red Storm in limbo as the final two spots would be determined through tiebreaker scenarios. St. John's had wrapped up its conference schedule but Syracuse and Georgetown both have one BIG EAST game remaining.
St. John's, Syracuse and Georgetown were separated into a mini-conference in the event that after next weekend's games all ended up 3-3 in conference. The three-way tie was broken by conference goal differential which gave the advantage to Syracuse. According to BIG EAST rules, no matter a game's final outcome, for tiebreaking purposes no team can achieve better than a +7 goal differential in one game, therefore making the gap between Syracuse and Georgetown too much to close for the Hoyas. After the first tie was resolved, the tiebreaker reverts back to head-to-head and St. John's grabs hold of the four seed thanks to its victory over Georgetown.
The Championship ticket package, which provides general admission to all three games, costs $16 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Single day tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
