Red Storm To Host Fairleigh-Dickinson In Midweek Doubleheader

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 3, 2012)-- The St. John's softball team will continue its five-game home stand, stepping out of conference play to host the Fairleigh-Dickinson Knights in a midweek doubleheader at Red Storm Field.
After taking a game from then-No. 25 Syracuse over the weekend, the Red Storm will look to build on its 4-3 home record and 3-1 mark against non-conference opponents. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m., with live video, stats and chatting all available on RedStormSports.com.
- After a 2-3 week to open BIG EAST play , the St. John's softball team will step out of conference play to host the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson in a midweek doubleheader at Red Storm Field to conclude a five-game homestand.
- The Red Storm holds a 7-1 advantage in the series, and have won three of four in the Amy Kvilhaug era. The two teams haven't met since April 29, 2009 when the Knights took the first game of a doubleheader 3-0 before the Johnnies responded with their own shutout in game two, 2-0.
- Senior Julia Sanchez is a .400 lifetime hitter against the Knights, the highest average among current Red Storm players. In the 2009 doubleheader, Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a stolen base.
- The Knights will be the first of two-straight midweek opponents from the Northeast Conference for St. John's, as the Red Storm will travel to Brooklyn to face LIU next week.
- St. John's boasts a 3-1 record this year at Red Storm Field against non-conference opponents, and all-time against the Knights is 5-1 in its home park.
- Leading the Johnnies coming into the midweek matchup in the circle is sophomore Ashley Beza who has a 3.08 ERA in 131.2 innings pitched. In the four home games against non-conference opponents, Beza has pitched 18 innings, giving up just four earned runs for a 1.56 ERA, including a complete game shutout of Manhattan on March 21.
- At the plate, junior Chrissy Montez has been on fire since returning to Queens, batting .359. In the team's seven home games, Montez is batting .560 with all five of her home runs and 16 RBI on 14 hits. Senior Kacee Cox is batting .500 with a team-best .654 on-base percentage, while junior Dominique Marcelino is hitting .412. Both Cox and Marcelino have posted flawless fielding percentages in this year's contests at home.
- As a team, the Johnnies are batting .315 at home in contrast to their .270 team batting average overall, while posting a .382 on-base percentage at Red Storm Field this season.
