QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's head men's soccer coach Dr. Dave Masur has been selected as one of 14 former Scarlet Knight standouts named to the Rutgers Men's Soccer 75th Anniversary Team. The team, which can be viewed here, was selected by a fan voting process held throughout the fall.
"It is always a great honor to be recognized by your alma mater and it is especially humbling to be associated with such an unbelievable group of players," said Masur. "I had fantastic teammates at Rutgers and this honor is a credit to them and to Coach Reasso, who built a powerhouse program in his 29 years and helped me develop tremendously as a player."
A two-time All-American and a three-time team captain, Masur helped lead the Scarlet Knights to a 35-14-6 record during his three seasons in Piscataway from 1982-84. The defender was also a two-time winner of the team's Bob McNulty MVP Award and a two-time NSCAA All-Region selection.
During his first of back-to-back All-America seasons in 1983, Masur helped the program earn its first NCAA Tournament berth in 22 years en route to finishing with a 17-1-2 record. Masur was the team's third-leading scorer that season with four goals and six assists, and graduated from Rutgers ranked eighth all-time in assists and 13th in points.
One of just eight Scarlet Knight men's soccer players to have his jersey retired, Masur was also inducted into the Rutgers Olympic Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
Masur, who entered the 2013 season as the second-winningest active head men's soccer coach by winning percentage (.716) and the seventh-winningest active head men's coach by wins (367), is a two-time National Coach of the Year and a three-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year. With Masur on the sidelines, the Red Storm has captured one NCAA National Championship, advanced to four College Cups and reached 19 NCAA Tournaments. Masur has also led St. John's to a conference-record nine BIG EAST Tournament crowns as well as six BIG EAST regular season titles.
