St. John's head coach Joe Tartamella
On the 62-55 loss to Drexel:
"Obviously we're disappointed that we didn't come away with a win. I thought we didn't do a good job of coming out in the first four minutes of each half, I thought those were really telling pieces of the game for us. I felt that we did a really good job of getting to the free throw line in the first half which is why we were able to open up the game. However, we're disappointed with the result but we have to come out tomorrow and we have to get better."
On CAA opponents Drexel and James Madison:
"I told the girls in the locker room that it's good that we play tomorrow to try and turn around, but we're facing another quality opponent. That's part of playing a tough non-conference schedule to put ourselves against teams that could win their conference. They were going to be competitive teams that also prepares for us for teams like Villanova and Creighton, teams that we're going to see in the BIG EAST."
On the return of senior guard Eugeneia McPherson:
"It's good to have her back on the floor; it gives us another quality guard off the bench. I had a conversation with her today to try and get her to understand that you can't make everything up in one game and to let it come to her. As she gets more acclimated to the game speed and being in in-game situations she'll be better. Just her spirit on the floor and that edge that she gives you at times makes a difference. She has been through a lot and I'm glad to see her back on the floor."
Senior Guard Briana Brown
On loss to Drexel in the St. John's Chartwell's Holiday Classic:
"I feel like we came out very sluggish the first four minutes of each half. We really didn't play our game. I give credit to Drexel but we just didn't play our game."
On tomorrow's matchup against James Madison:
"It's good to have another game right off the back so we don't have to dwell on this loss. We will come back tomorrow and play how we should play."
Senior Guard Eugeneia McPherson
On being back on the court:
"I'm happy to be back on the court with my team. It obviously wasn't a good day for us but I think we'll be better tomorrow and from now on. I felt good out there and the short shots I did miss will drop eventually when I get back in the flow. I'm just excited to be back out there."
On how the team will come out and play tomorrow:
"We have a bad taste in our mouth from this loss, so I think tomorrow we will come out and play St. John's women's basketball."
