FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. (March 1, 2013) - The St. John's men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion by defeating cross-town rival Fordham, 7-0, in a noontime match at the National Tennis Center on Friday.
Senior Vasko Mladenov and sophomore Mark Mozer each won their third consecutive matches with Mladenov winning 6-2, 6-4 and Mozer taking the 6-2, 6-0 decision. St. John's (1-7, 0-1) also saw production from the bottom half of the lineup with senior Mike Lampa, sophomore Hugo Morth and freshman Michael-John Every each winning in straight sets.
In doubles, the Red Storm was led by freshman Michael-John Every and senior Valentin Mihai at the No. 3 position. The duo never looked back after taking a 4-0 lead, they went to win convincingly, 8-1. Classmates Mladenov and Lampa finished the job at No.1 doubles where they defeated Srilear Alla and J.J. Tavil, 8-3.
St. John's will be back in action tomorrow when the Red Storm takes on UC Santa Barbara at 3 p.m. at the National Tennis Center.
