FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Despite clinching doubles point to give themselves a 1-0 lead over No. 56 Yale, the St. John's men's tennis team could not get past the Bulldogs, falling 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the National Tennis Center in the first home outdoor match of the season.

Classmates Hugo Morth and Mark Mozer set the tone at No. 3 doubles where they won their match in impressive fashion, 8-2.

After Yale's John Huang and Patrick Chase claimed an 8-5 decision at second doubles, doubles point came down to the match at the No. 1 slot. With seniors Valentin Mihai and Mike Lampa up 7-6, Mihai finished the job with a forehand smash to win 8-6 and clinch the point for the Johnnies.

In singles, senior Vasko Mladenov picked up his BIG EAST-leading ninth straight match with a gritty three-set win over John Huang, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. Huang's 6-4 decision in the first set was the first time since Feb. 1 against No. 26 Harvard that Mladenov had lost the first set, it was also the last time he lost a match. All of the Bulgarian's victories during the streak have come at first singles.

The Red Storm will next head to the nation's capital for a 1 p.m. match against George Washington on Saturday, April 6.
