QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second time in three weeks, a pair of St. John's players has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the league this morning.
Rachel Daly, who scored the game's lone goal in the Red Storm's win over Seton Hall, and Mikhaila Martinov, who played exceptionally on the St. John's back line in the victory, were both honored by the BIG EAST for their performances.
Daly netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season against the Pirates, leading the Red Storm to a crucial victory. In the 59th minute, the junior from Harrogate, England, stole a ball at the top of the box and placed a masterful right foot on it, sending a curving strike to an unreachable spot in the top-left corner of the cage.
On the other end of the field, Martinov played well beyond her years, helping anchor the Red Storm defense to its fifth shutout in BIG EAST play and its eighth clean sheet overall. The freshman from Northport, N.Y., has started five of the seven games she's appeared in since her season debut on Sept. 28, helping shore up a back line that has suffered key injuries as of late.
The Red Storm has one regular-season contest remaining on its schedule, a winner-take-all contest at DePaul for the BIG EAST Regular-Season Championship this Friday in Chicagoland. First kick is set for 4 p.m. ET.
