QUEENS, N.Y. - For the second straight season, the St. John's Red Storm will make an appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament, securing the three seed and home-field advantage for the entire championship.
The Red Storm will kick off the tournament on Tuesday, playing host to the Villanova Wildcats at 7 p.m. at Belson Stadium. The winner of the tilt between the Red Storm and the Wildcats will go on to face Georgetown in the semifinals, slated for Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
St. John's and Villanova met once during the regular season, a 1-0 win for the Red Storm in The City of Brotherly Love on Oct. 12. Senior forward Caitlyn McLaughlin scored the lone goal of the game against the Wildcats, giving the Red Storm the decisive lead in the 70th minute on an assist from Rachel Daly.
DePaul, one of two undefeated teams in the NCAA, won its first-ever BIG EAST Regular Season title this season and enters the tournament as the one seed. Georgetown secured the two seed and a bye to the semifinals with a convincing 8-0 win over Seton Hall on Friday night. After the Red Storm in the three seed, Marquette occupies the four seed, while Providence and Villanova round out the field at the five and six seeds, respectively.
