Handford Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - After a string of solid performances to help the Red Storm move to 5-0 on the season, junior guard Aliyyah Handford has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the league office.
This is the second-consecutive weekly recognition for Handford, who was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team this year.
Handford averaged 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and three assists per game in a week that saw the Red Storm go 3-0. The week started with the Red Storm's victory over Marist on Monday, a game in which Handford pulled down 12 rebounds, including a career-high 10 defensive boards. The Newark, N.J., native also recorded a season-high five steals in the victory.
On Friday against Binghamton, Handford scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, dishing out four assists and recording three steals in the process.
In her team's victory over Wagner on Sunday, the WBCA Honorable Mention All-American poured in a game-high 21 points, converting on 10 of her 14 field goal attempts in just 23 minutes of action.
Over the final two games of the week, Handford shot a blistering 67 percent from the floor.
Handford and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday night, kicking off BIG EAST play with a 7 p.m. match up against Xavier in Carnesecca Arena. The game will also be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
