QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping her team kick off BIG EAST play with a victory before leading the Red Storm to a critical road win over USF, junior guard Aliyyah Handford has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, it was announced by the league office this morning.
This is the third-straight weekly recognition for Handford, who was also named to the Honor Roll on Dec. 1 and Nov. 24.
On Wednesday against Xavier, Handford tallied 14 points and grabbed five boards, playing 31 minutes in a convincing 65-42 win at Carnesecca Arena. The Newark, N.J., native also dished out two assists and swiped two steals in the victory.
On Sunday in Tampa, Handford put together an incredible second half against the Bulls, helping propel her team to a 55-52 win over a nationally-acclaimed squad.
Handford hit six of her 11 shot attempts in the latter stanza, scoring 17 of her game-high 25 in the second half. She also finished the game with six rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists, seeing all 40 minutes of action.
The Red Storm overcame a five-point halftime deficit on the road, moving to 7-0 on the season.
National media took notice of the Red Storm's win, as St. John's moved just two spots out of the AP Poll announced on Monday.
