Wachowicz Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior Aleksandra Wachowicz was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In a 3-1 week for the Red Storm (8-3), Wachowicz recorded 5.27 kills per set on a .382 attacking percentage. She led the team in kills in all four of its matches, including a season-high 25 in a 3-2 heartbreaker loss to Dartmouth in the opening match of the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic Friday afternoon.
Later that evening, Wachowicz had a match-high 19 kills on a .378 percentage in a straight-sets victory against New Hampshire. She also added six digs, and two service aces.
Wachowicz then recorded 13 kills on a .476 percentage in a 3-0 win against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday to lead the match in kills for the third-straight match. She also recorded five digs and two service aces.
The native of Legionowo, Poland, capped off the weekend with a team-high 22 kills on an impressive .444 hitting percentage against Fresno State, while also chipping in two digs and two service aces. The Red Storm victory over the Bulldogs clinched the tournament title and Wachowicz was named the tournament's most valuable player.
This is the first time this season and fourth time in her career that Wachowicz has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

The Red Storm will remain in Queens for one of the most interesting matches of the season for a midweek match against La Salle at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17. For the first time in program history, Persico will have the opportunity to coach against one of her former players as 2006 graduate Caitlin Rimigaila returns to Carnesecca Arena as the head coach of the Explorers.
This weekend, the Red Storm will play in its fourth tournament of the season at the Towson Tiger Invitational in Towson, MD. St. John's will take on North Dakota State at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 before facing Kent State at 5 p.m. and host school Towson at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 to close out the tournament.
