The Red Storm is 1-0-0 in BIG EAST play to following a convincing 2-0 win over Xavier on Thursday night in Cincinnati.
Thursday's match featured another stellar performance from the dynamic fresh¬man duo of Shea Connors and Allie Moar. After connecting on a game-winner against Stony Brook, the pair combined for both goals in the Red Storm's 2-0 win over the Musketeers.
Diana Poulin and the Red Storm backline combined to produce its fourth shutout in five victories this season on Thursday night. Poulin's goals against average is now 1.49 on the season and just 0.67 since the team's loss to UConn on September 12th.
One bright spot for the Red Storm on its recent run has been the play of junior Diamond Thomas. After injury forced Coach Ian Stone to rearrange his line up, Thomas moved into the starting 11 and has stepped up accordingly.
Freshman Shea Connors has shown an innate ability to come up in the clutch this season, as all three of her tallies have been game-winners. The New Haven, Conn., native has also been incredibly effecient with a shooting percentage of .375.
SCOUTING CREIGHTON
The Bluejays had a spectacular non-conference season, winning their first seven games of the year and closing out non-league play with an 8-1-0 overall record.
Despite their stellar record heading into BIG EAST play, the Bluejays struggled mightily in their conference opener. Creighton fell to Marquette, the preseason favorite to win the league, by a 7-2 margin, as Mary Luba tallied five points to lead the Golden Eagles.
The Bluejays have been relentless in the offensive end of the pitch this season, averaging 2.86 goals and 18.6 shots per game through their first ten contests.
A very balanced squad on the offensive end, the Bluejays feature ten players that have tallied at least one goal on the year and three players with at least five goals. Lauren Sullivan and Kirstyn Corder lead the squad with six goals apiece, while Alyssa Jara checks in with five tallies on the season.
RED STORM VS. BLUEJAYS - THE SERIES
After defeating Xavier on Thursday night, the Red Storm will once again face a team in its second year in the BIG EAST.
The Red Storm and Bluejays have faced one another twice in the history of the two programs. The first meeting came back in October of 1991, a 2-0 victory for Creighton. The second match occurred just last year at Belson Stadium, when the two squads played to a scoreless tie on September 29.
