Men's Tennis Kicks Off Season at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Red Storm opened the 2015 season as a participant in the Seminole Tournament held at Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee on January 10th. No. 71 St. John's finished the season-opening weekend in Tallahassee at 1-2.
The first match of the 2015 season ended on a high note as No. 71 St. John's defeated No. 70 UCF, 4-2, to open their season with four singles victories, including the clincher at the No. 6 slot from sophomore Freddy Ruiz Acevedo. Acevedo won in straight sets, on a tiebreaker, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9).
Junior Vaidik Munshaw turned in a key performance for the Red Storm in the No. 5 slot in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Later in the day, No. 71 St. John's fell to No. 35 Florida State 4-0 in their second match of the Seminole Tournament.
The top half of the Red Storm lineup performed well as first, second and third singles remained unfinished. Sophomore Robert Livi went toe-to-toe with Marco Nunez, ranked No. 99 in the ITA singles rankings, in the first singles flight. Munshaw performed well in the No. 3 slot taking the first set, 6-2 before dropping the second set 5-7.
On day two of the Seminole Tournament, the No.71 Red Storm lost a tough battle to No. 72 North Florida 4-1.
In the second singles flight, Erick Reyes won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. In the first singles flight, Robert Livi pushed Jack Findel-Hawkins, No. 72 in the ITA singles ranking to three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 2-5 the match ended unfinished.
