Head coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement:
"Obviously this is a tough loss for us. We didn't do the things towards the end of the game that we needed to. Losing Danaejah [Grant] did not help our cause. Our first half was probably the worst that we've executed on both ends this season, yet we still gave ourselves a chance in the end. Credit to Butler, who made the plays that allowed them to stay in the game and hold on to it. We didn't do those things that we needed to when we had a chance to secure the game and our free throw shooting caught us again today. We just weren't able to finish it today and we know we have to be better. We have to have a short memory and get ready to leave tomorrow to face Creighton."
On the Red Storm learning from tonight's loss:
"In games like these, when, for whatever reason, you don't have the correct level of intensity, you have to be able to make free throws and execute. Butler did a great job tonight and it's a credit to their staff and players. This one will sting for a little bit but quickly you have to wake up and get ready to go again. Like I've said already this season, this isn't our first loss and it won't be our last. We have to get better from it. We know our margin of error is very small and today it caught us."
Junior guard Aliyyah Handford
On falling behind Butler in the first half:
"I think we came out a little slow. We didn't have that much energy and we didn't come out how we usually come out."
On bouncing back from this loss:
"We just have to regroup and come back ready for our game on Sunday [at Creighton]. We can't focus on this game anymore. We have to move onto the next game and be ready."
Sophomore forward Jade Walker
On the development of the Red Storm's freshmen:
"They'll definitely be able to help us. I think they just have to get their confidence up a little bit more but they are definitely the type of players that can help us this season."
